Working and travelling for long holidays is being promoted among students before going to universities in few countries. Some governments believe that this gap between the school and universities studies is quite necessary. However, there are merits as well as demerits in this system.

To begin with, travelling is being considered as one of the best activity to refresh the mind. After studying in school almost for a decade with the similar system over a long period of time, it is obvious that a student needs relaxation. At such point travelling, especially at some natural places and abroad is being encouraged among the students. Travels provide peace to human brain and prepare the student for their upcoming university courses. Spending on travel is good investment.

Additionally, students who choose to work for few months after completing school, perform better in university. Working provides the student certain skills with significant experience. It had been noticed in some prominent institutes that, the students who had worked before joining a college have better academic performance compared to other students. In addition, such students are also great at sports and other curriculum activities as well as they are very professional at projects and presentations.

On the other hand, there is a major disadvantage which is the loss of interest in studies. Due to travelling and working the student either stop liking studying as travelling is really more interesting or they focus more on working in the greed of money, and both these actions are worsening the future of students. The long gap dispute the consistency of learning which affects really badly. The ratio of dropouts in the universities is considerably higher among the student who work or travel after schools.

Considering the advantages and disadvantages this decision has its own benefits and problems. It basically depends on the students which way they select and which will be beneficial for them for the better future.
