Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students. IELTS Writing Task 2

Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. What extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

Nowadays there are reserved seats for girls in almost every university. Universities even give scholarships to girls to promote girls education and women empowerment. To some extent these reservations are good but the idea of giving equal seats to female is quite controversial.

The discrimination on girls by parents and society have almost eliminated in tier one and tier two cities. Girls are given equal quality of education as boys. I quite disagree with the idea of giving equal seats to females and males and there are few reasons behind it.

The male students are quite more in number than the female students. The male population plays a big role here. If females are given half of the seats in universities, it might be possible that many deserving students who deserve those seats, would not be able to get it and it’s unfair according to me. Female students are comparatively less and giving them the 50% of seats is a huge disadvantage and injustice to deserving male students. It is even possible that an undeserving female student might get a seat in place of a deserving male student. It’s not good as well that the female students are less but this is not a good way to find the solutions. According to me there are many ways which are better than this.

I agree in tier 3 cities education of female is still a major problem. They are not allowed to complete their studies but giving fifty percent of the seats doesn’t changes anything, the ones who were not allow won’t be allowed in the future as well. Rather than these universities and government should take steps like convincing the society and parents to allow the females for further education, to give scholarships to them, to can decrease the tuition fees, opening colleges and universities even in the tier three cities may help to promote the female education.

Even some seats can be kept reserved for females in the universities may be around one-fourth or one fifth of the seats can be fair but given that males and females have the equal seats in universities is not a proper decision and doesn’t help to solve any problem related to female education. It has more disadvantages and almost zero advantages. According to me it is more of an injustice to the deserving and hardworking students. I disagree with the fact that females and males are given equal seats. Seats should be allotted to deserving students whether they are male or female.
